Cultivate Wellness: Growing Health at Home

Spring is here, and with it comes another vibrant season of Cultivate Wellness! Rooted in the belief that health begins at home, our program combines at-home gardening with community-based health education to nourish families from the ground up.

Cultivate Wellness uses gardening as a powerful tool to address both health and social needs. Our trained and dedicated staff work alongside families in southeast Omaha to improve access to affordable, fresh produce while empowering them with the knowledge and tools to grow their own food.

This year, we’re thrilled to serve 63 families—13 more than last season! Each family will receive a cedar wood garden bed and culturally appropriate plants such as cucumbers, cilantro, habaneros, tomatillos, and oregano—staples in many Latino households.

However, Cultivate Wellness goes far beyond planting seeds. Our team provides hands-on education and ongoing support to help families grow their understanding of health and wellness. Twice a month, staff will visit each home to lead lessons on topics such as diabetes prevention and building sustainable, healthy habits—strengthening not only bodies but also minds and connections.

Thanks to the dedication of our staff, the passion of our families and the support of our partners, this program continues to thrive. We’re not just growing food—we’re cultivating health, connection, and culture!
